Week one…starting work

Last week, just before leaving Tanzania for a short sojourn in London I received the following:

TO:
MR JOHN DE RONDE
Email: johnderonde@live.com
Date: 18th April 2013

Dear John,
REF: A THANK YOU NOTE FOR YOUR DONATION
Reference is made to the above mentioned topic.

On behalf of the Social and Development Projects Committee Members, Lyamungo Sinde Primary School administration and the Church Leadership; I would like to thank you and all other friends that you associate with for your willingness to helping us and we are optimistic that whatever assistance is provided to us will definitely make a difference in our Community.

We appreciate a donation of eight desktop computers, a printer and a scanner machine which were handed over to us recently.

Your commitment to helping our community is sincerely appreciated.

There are no words to express our gratitude for the interest you’ve taken in helping our community but our Heavenly Father whom we believe and trust will reward you abundantly.

We would like to share with you a verse of the Bible from 2 Corinthians 9:11-12.
“You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God”.

Again, thank you from all of us and remain blessed.

Sincerely,
Aggrey Kileo

I feel deeply honoured by such gratitude and feel motivated, even spurred on to do as much as possible to help the community. The computers were donated to me by another charity working not far away with the proviso that I set them up for charitable purposes in Lyamungo Sinde.

My original intention in the village was to provide a networked computer facility so that children who have left primary education but are unable to attend secondary school (not compulsory in Tanzania) would have a facility in the village to carry on their studies. This idea has of course, with the help of Art Building Children’s Dreams (ABCDreams.ca and hopefully with ABCDreams.org.uk) now become an extended project to help all orphaned and Otherwise Vulnerable Children (OVC) to access the normal school curriculum.

With this in mind I picked up a set of drawings made by the children at Lyamungo Sinde Primary School and my aim now, while in London, is to set up a fundraising exhibition in honour of the children. More on the exhibition and venues soon. Karibuni sana.
